Recruitment of Members

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for enrolment as members of the Civil Aid Service (CAS).

Major Duties

The Civil Aid Service (CAS) is a government auxiliary emergency service established under the Civil Aid Service Ordinance. The primary duty of the CAS is to provide civil support services during emergencies. Members of the Service are trained to perform emergency duties during typhoons, flooding and landslips; search for and rescue people in distress in mountains; help evacuate or rescue victims trapped under collapsed buildings or buried in landslips; and combat vegetation fires. They are also required to conduct youth training.

Requirements for Enrolment as Members and Selection Procedures

Applicants should be:-

(1)  at least 16 years of age, any applicant under 18 years of age should obtain from his/her parent or
guardian a written consent;
(2) permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(3) able to speak fluent Cantonese and read Chinese; and
(4) able to pass a Functional and Fitness Test and a Medical Examination.

Selection Procedures

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend a Functional and Fitness Test, a Written Test on Use of
Chinese and English, an Interview and a Medical Examination. CAS will select the most suitable candidates for enrolment as members of the CAS in accordance with the overall performance of the candidates in the selection procedures and the available vacancies in the Service. For details of the
Functional and Fitness Test, please refer to the CAS website (http://www.cas.gov.hk).

(Remarks: Applicants who can read and write simple English are preferable. The English test result will
not affect one's eligibility for enrolment, but it will be one of the considerations to assess the candidate's
suitability for enrolment.)

Allowances

Where any member attends training or performs duties, he/she shall be eligible to be paid the allowances in
accordance with the Auxiliary Forces Pay and Allowance Ordinance, Cap. 254.

How to Apply

Completed enrolment form should reach Records Office, 4/F, CAS Headquarters, 8 To Wah Road, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon on or before 15 February 2012. Please specify on the envelope "Application for enrolment as members of the CAS". Enrolment Form, CAS 17 (Rev. 2011), can be obtained through: (1) the Civil Aid Service's website; (2) Fax at 2576 3021; or (3) E-mail at: casenq@cas.gov.hk.
